DESCRIPTION:

ProZinc is an injectable insulin containing Protamine Zinc Recombinant Human Insulin. This product is formulated for use in dogs and cats. It is an aqueous suspension that is useful in reducing high blood sugar or high blood glucose (hyperglycemia) and its clinical signs in diabetic pets. If your dog or cat has diabetes mellitus, you’re familiar with the difficulty of controlling clinical signs and regulating blood glucose. This medication provides glycemic control and helps improve your pet’s quality of life. It helps the body break down glucose. Cells usually require insulin for glucose breakdown, but diabetic pets do not produce an adequate amount of insulin. This leads to glucose buildup in the animal’s blood, and it can also cause health issues. This insulin boosts blood insulin levels to allow for glucose breakdown (and subsequent prevention of health issues).

Key Benefits:This medication maintains normal blood glucose levels through the provocation of carbohydrate metabolization in fat, bone, and heart function. This allows the cells in each organ to properly synthesize glucose, which creates energy.

Formulated For:Dogs and Cats.

How is Medication Given?

  • Use U-40 syringe to administer. Any other syringe will cause inaccurate dosing. <
  • Only inject subcutaneously.
  • Never agitate or shake vial.
  • To mix, gently roll the vial before withdrawing a dose.
  • After mixing, this suspension should have a cloudy, white appearance.
  • White particles or clumps may form in insulin. If these persist after you have gently rolled the vial, the product should not be used.
  • To administer, inject subcutaneously into the side or back of cat’s neck.
  • Recommended initial dosage rate is 0.1 IU to 0.3 IU per pound of body weight administered at 12-hour intervals.
  • Administer just after or during a meal.
  • Cats should undergo routine re-evaluation, and dosage rates should be adjusted depending upon glucose nadirs and clinical signs to establish glycemic control. (In effectiveness studies, control was defined as 9-hour blood glucose curve glucose nadir between 80 mg/dL and 150 mg/dL, and improvement of hyperglycemia signs like weight loss, polydipsia, and polyuria.
  • Dosage adjustments might be needed if changes occur in the cat’s other medication, his or her body weight, or his or her diet, or if the cat experiences another medical condition, another endocrine condition, neoplasia, inflammation, or an infection.

What Results Can I Expect? ProZinc is approved by the FDA to treat dogs and cats with diabetes mellitus. It works to reduce the clinical signs associated with hyperglycemia.
